                           Portugese Bean Soup

   1      pound         Portuguese sausage -- sliced (use hot for
                        mild for mild soup)
   1                    Large carrot -- diced
   2                    Potatoes -- diced
   1                    Small onion -- chopped
   1      quart         Water
   1      can           Tomato sauce (8oz)
   1      tablespoon    Salt
   2      cans          Kidney beans (15oz) -- drained
   1      large         Head cabbage (2.5 to 3 lbs) -- chopped

In a large pot combine all ingredients except kidney beans and cabbage.
Bring to a boil; lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes, covered
. Add kidney beans and cabbage; simmer for 20 more minutes.
