* Exported from MasterCook * Spicy Mixed Bean Soup Recipe By : Serving Size : 8 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Crockpot Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/4 cup Black beans 1/4 cup Kidney beans 1/4 cup White beans 1/4 cup Garbanzo beans 1/4 cup Split green peas 1/4 cup Baby lima beans 1/4 cup Barley 2 quarts Water 1 large Onion -- chopped 20 milliliters Garlic -- crushed 1 can Tomato sause -- 16 oz. 1 can Whole tomatoes -- chopped w/ Liquid (16 oz) 1/4 cup Canned mild green chiles Chopped 1/4 teaspoon Chili powder 1/4 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes Place all of the beans in a large soup pot with the water. Bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, remove from the heat, and let rest for 1 hour. (Or soak the beans overnight in water to cover and eliminate the previous step.) Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil (in the soaking water of so prepared), cover, reduce the heat, and cook until the beans are tender, 3 to 4 hours. NOTE: This soup is wonderful to make in a slow cooker.
