The Salvation Army is presently working on a new program for youth. It is called the Learning Zone. The Learning Zone's mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for learning, resulting in academic, emotional, and social growth in children and families. The Learning Zone staff works with parent, teachers, and other professionals to asses the needs of each child and tailor a learning plan that is specific to that child. Those children that teachers and/or parents feel would benefit from the Learning Zone has the opportunity to participate in this program.
The daily objectives of the children are to complete homework, engage in some type of reading activity and review basic math facts. Long-term goals are increase the student's overall GPA and to increase decrease school absences over the academic year.
But we need your help!!! We are currently looking for volunteers that are willing to commit a couple of hours a week to be tutors for this program. Please contact John Venus at (610) 432-0129, ext. 211 if you are interested.
