We now have our own domain name! Please visit http://www.camilleandbob.net/ instead! This page will document our move to 28 South 8th St. in Quakertown. It will be revised periodically. We expect to move in approx. the third week of January, 2005.This building was built by our current neighbor's grandfather back around 1910. It was originally a hardware store/bicycle shop. After many years, the hardware store was turned into an antique shop before Barbara and Lloyd sold the property/businesses.Lloyd grew up in this house and later on, Barbara rented it for awhile before she and Lloyd were married.
This apartment is currently over Angels Wishes gift shop. We will rent the second and third floors.
This is the vestibule and laundry room (we are able to use the landlord's washer/dryer).
Up these steps.....and you're in our apartment!
Each room needed various amounts of "work" as you will see. We decided to do most of the work in the apartment ourselves with the tireless help of many friends.
LIVING ROOM
The Living Room is a wonderful size and is bright and cheery having so many windows! We are keeping the wallpaper.
We put up some border "samples to help us decide on a new one.
The view outside the side of the living room (roof of cycle shop and Anglican church).
Chris needed some rest after working on the dining room ceiling!
Alma and Pat painted woodwork and the built-in cabinet and provided wonderful meals!
Carpeting was cleaned!
DINING ROOM
The Dining Room wallpaper was already falling off in places. Under the ceiling tiles we found a couple other layers of wallpaper as well. We can now understand why someone put a drop ceiling here as there was old water damage in the corner.
Roy is fixing up some of the outlets. He also worked tirelessly scraping and patching the walls to prep for painting.
Greg takes a break from patching walls. Jay and Greg C. also helped with the walls.
Dale is our "foreman" and he has overseen many of the projects! His expertise in finishing the dining room walls was obvious!
Lisa finished off the dining room with a couple coats of paint.
MAIN BEDROOM The main Bedroom opens out into the Dining Room. It shares a closet with the second bedroom.
Joel helped take out the carpeting and removed the staples that were in the floor.
Willard took down all the old mini blinds and other window hardware.
Alyce and Mandie Hendricks put the painted ceiling tiles back in their original places.
Existing ceiling light fixture.
SECOND BEDROOMThe second bedroom will be my knitting room and should handle my knitting machines and other paraphernalia! The carpeting was ripped out and we removed LOTS of staples that held down the padding. Some sagging ceiling tiles were replaced.
It opens out into the kitchen and shares a closet with the main bedroom.
Dad removed the many hooks in the closet and Bob gave it the first coat.
Appliances are temporarily moved out of the kitchen.
KITCHEN
This hard yellow pine cabinet was refinished many years ago by our current neighbor, Lloyd.
This white sink cabinet was terribly rusted inside.
Old sink is removed.
The kitchen carpeting is all ripped out.
Dale and Joel remove the last of the older flooring. Dale, Willard, Greg and Greg C. lay the subfloor.
Dale and Willard put in the new floor tiles! Here is what they found after removing the carpet that went up the baseboards. This is horsehair plaster. A new "molding" needs to be put in.
Keith Hendricks cleaned some cabinets and he and Josh Layton painted the inside. Brenda, Alyce, Mandy, Keith, Barb, James, Josh, Alissa and Cody helped with painting, cleaning and moving!
New sink is in place and is now primed.
Kitchen is painted a little at a time.
BATHROOM
The bathroom is off the kitchen and is very narrow as you walk in.
The drop ceiling was in bad shape. When we removed it, we saw how bad the walls and ceiling were!
Existing ceiling fixture.
THIRD FLOOR
You access the third floor through a door inside the bathroom!
We've already started storing some of my yarn up here. Jay says this third floor room would make a great location for a train layout!
The doorway at the end leads to a second large room that is unfinished. Thanks to the Hendricks Family and Cody Wenhold, it's all cleaned out!
We're calling it the "Upper Room."
Thanks for visiting!
